Fortune Chasi

Holds LLB Hons (University of Zimbabwe); LLM INT BUS LAW (Cumbria University); LLM INT LAW (University of Essex) ; Dphil (University of Zimbabwe)

Fortune is a Senior Partner at Chasi & Maguwudze Legal Practice. He holds a Bachelor of Laws, a Master of Science in International Relations degree from the University of Zimbabwe, a Master of Laws in International Law from Essex University  and a Master of Laws in International Business Law from Cumbria.

He runs the energy development practice, focusing on energy regulatory support for renewable project development and transactions, compliance counselling, and regulatory controversies. Fortune also regularly counsels renewable energy developers and asset managers on compliance with the requirements of the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Energy.

His other roles include assisting with litigation, advising and representing individuals, businesses and government agencies on legal issues or disputes. He works within each sector of the energy industry, leading and supporting contract negotiation and execution, financing and confidentiality agreements, patents and intellectual property filings, mergers and acquisitions and legal compliance. Fortune conducts legal research, interprets laws, rulings, and regulations for individuals and businesses, prepares Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), lawsuits, appeals, contracts, and deeds.

Tawanda Maguwudze

Tawanda Maguwudze

Holds LLB Hons (University of Zimbabwe);

Tawanda is a Managing Partner at Chasi-Maguwudze Legal Practice. He graduated from the University of Zimbabwe. Tawanda is a registered legal practitioner with 13 years’ experience and concentrates on the firm’s Conveyancing and Property portfolio, Administration of Estates and Trusts portfolio. Such services include, but are not limited to drafting of sale agreements and bonds, wills, antenuptial contracts undertakings, subdivisions, acknowledgments of debts and suretyships. 

As an experienced conveyancer Tawanda undertakes a wide range of property transactions which include transfers of residential and commercial properties, as well as attending to mortgage bond registrations and the cancellation thereof. Tawanda has attended to transfers for private clients, SME’s and large corporate clients and is also on the Masters of the High Court Panel of Independent Estate Administration.

Valentine Mhungu

Valentine Mhungu

Holds LLB Hons (Walter Sisulu University) and LLM Labour Law (University of Kwazulu-Natal

Valentine is registered legal practitioner of 10 years’ experience. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Walter Sisulu University and a Master’s Degree in Labour Law from the University of Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. Valentine is a partner at Chasi Maguwudze Legal Practice and specialises in High Court Litigation and dispute resolution in civil matters. 

He has represented a diverse range of corporate clients from various industries and provides a wide variety of commercial legal services. Such services include, but are not limited to arbitration, negotiation, risk assessment, insolvency, commercial legal advice and interpretation of contracts. Valentine also has a general practice covering trusts, estates, company and commercial law as well as rendering general tax advice.

 

INNOCENT T CHINGARANDE

INNOCENT T CHINGARANDE

Holds LLB Hons (University of Cape Town)

Innocent is an Associate Partner and a registered legal practitioner of 8 years’ experience, having practiced as a Public Prosecutor for over 3 years. Innocent graduated from the University of Cape Town before returning to Zimbabwe to practice law. Further fields of expertise include commercial civil litigation (both High Court and Magistrates Court), labour law, criminal law, debt collection and dispute resolution.

He has represented a diverse range of corporate clients, from various industries and provides expert legal services in litigation, mediation, risk assessment,commercial legal advice and legal compliance.Other areas of legal skills which have been developed during his career include a proficiency in legal research, family law, which includes access to children, mediation, maintenance and divorce, wills, restraints of trade, unlawful competition, urgent applications, Anton Piller applications and administrative law.

LINDSAY DZUMBUNU

LINDSAY DZUMBUNU

LINDSAY DZUMBUNU (Partner) LLB Hons (University of Zimbabwe)

Lindsay holds an LLBs (Hons) Degree from the University of Zimbabwe with over a decade of experience in the practice of the law. Lindsay is experienced in the public, private and corporate sectors of the law.

Lindsay is an avid mining law practitioner having worked for over five years in the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development where she was involved in the drafting and reform of mining legislation. Whilst in the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development she was the Secretariat for the Mining Sector under the World Bank backed Ease of Doing Business, legal focal person in the Technical Committee for the Mining Cadastre and the world-renowned Kimberly Process Certification Scheme amongst other major accolades. Lindsay has also contributed to formulation of strategies in the Artisanal and Small Scale Mining Sector as well as written research papers for various Civil Society Organisations that deal with natural resource governance issues. She also works with the Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) on an ad-hoc basis on legal advisory issues to the organisation and its members.

She is an avid researcher and reformer whose areas of expertise are natural resource governance and management more particularly mining law, legal drafting, litigation, policy formulation, contract negotiation and legal advisory services.

Lindsay sits on the Board of Havillah Gold (Private) Limited.

MUNYA MIDZI

MUNYA MIDZI

MUNYA MIDZI (Of Counsel)

Munya’s areas of expertise are Corporate and Commercial Law, Civil and Criminal Law. His interests and strengths lie in litigation in the said fields. He also advises on large commercial transactions under the senior partner’s tutelage.

Munya started off his career in corporate, and off note served at a tender age as a Director of several companies from 2015 to 2019, as Managing Director of a local contractor, he over saw the expansion of the electricity network in rural Zimbabwe under the government’s Expanded Rural electrification Programme, building approximately 1,000km of high voltage lines. During the same period, he ran projects in expanding the grid network in urban Zimbabwe, later he was engaged in road rehabilitation projects in Zimbabwe as Operations Director of a civil contracting firm. This work experience in the business sector has given him a keen understating of the complexities that the firm’s corporate clients face in navigating regulations, lobbying, negotiations and general transactions.

He serves on the boards of Alpha Detail Zimbabwe, and is the advisor to the Board Chairman of Nhimbe Fresh Exports (formerly part of Lonrho). He is registered with the Law Society of Zimbabwe and appears in the lower courts right up to the Constitutional Court.
